For a period of about 4 years I was working full time as an Engineering Coordinator at a busy 5 star hotel in central London, which I found extremely challenging as I was constantly getting objects out of different materials (many of them in metal) that the hotel was throwing away and that in many cases ended up being part of my works. The labyrinthine and narrow spaces of the second basement where my department was located were on the one hand claustrophobic but on the other they were also very inspiring as I had access to many areas that were outside of everyday reality: rooms with huge chillers, boilers, walls and ceilings filled with pipes and electrical devices…all that had clearly a visual impact on me and inspired my project entitled ‘Engineering’.
